Itinerary

Open Water Swimming in Scotland

Day 1

We will meet at 1600 at Banff sailing club for a Safety briefing, introductions followed by a swim in the sea for you to become acclimatised and for us to put you in to groups according to ability.

Day 2

Today is a day when you take to the water and get used to your surroundings and the swimmers in your group. Your swim will be 2 hours in with a one hour break and a further 2 hours in, giving you a total of 4 swimming hours. For relay swimmers this will be 1 hour swim with a two hour break then a further 1 hour swim. Stroke videoing in the Castle of Park’s Endless Pool and analysis

There will be a seminar early evening.

Day 3

We move on from the swim achieved yesterday to one of 3 hours in, one hour out and a final swim of 2 hours, this will give you a total of 5 hours swimming. For relay swimmers this will be 2 hours in, two hours out then a further 1 hour. Stroke videoing in the Castle of Park’s Endless Pool and analysis

Brief seminar in the early evening led by Kevin Murphy.

Day 4

This is the day everyone has been looking forward to, a straight 6 hour Coastal swim, for those wishing to swim the English Channel this can be used as your ‘qualifying swim’. Three or more safety boats depending on the number of swimmers. For relay swimmers this will be 2 hours, two hours out then a further 2 hours in.

Day 5

After the previous two days of swimming you can enjoy a swim of up to 3 hours in Loch Morlich. This evening has one final dinner together as a group.

Day 6

One final swim of approx. 1 hour in the sea prior to the swimmers departing.

For safety reasons we might have to swap days around due to the weather and sea conditions but we aim to work to the itinerary as far as is practical. If weather conditions dictate swims will be done in a fresh water loch or river.
