Castle of Park
Open Water Swimming in Scotland
This romantic 16th century pink Castle is hidden away in a tree lined park close to the beautiful Banffshire Coast. It was the home of the Gordon-Duff family until the late 20th century. The current owner (an open water swim enthusiast) took over the Castle with 40 acres of grounds in 2007 and completely restored the interior to its former glory by filling it with antique furniture and hanging the walls with a collection of mainly British Romantic Art.
The gardens, which had undergone considerable landscaping in Victorian times, are still a work in progress but now boast picturesque waterfalls, several ponds, an orchard, woodland walks, a laburnum avenue, a rhododendron tunnel and a rose garden.
Anyone who stays in this Castle will have a most memorable experience. All the reception rooms have wood burning stoves or open fires for a very comfortable feeling and to warm up after a swim. Fresh flowers, where possible from the Castle gardens, are arranged throughout the interior.
The food is locally sourced for a great Scottish breakfast. The sausages may even come from the Castle Highland Cows .
Most important for our purposes, the Castle also has a dual propulsion endless pool which is perfect for stroke analysis.
